High-performance waterborne resins and colorants designed for construction, industrial and architectural coatings

This presentation will cover an overview of these products and how they can be formulated into high-performance coatings.

Waterborne acrylic resins and colorants offer improved performance with lower VOC levels. EPS® delivers a complete line of waterborne products designed to serve the construction, industrial, and architectural coatings industries.

EPS® polymers and colorants lead to high-performance solutions for our customers and help differentiate their product portfolios with <50g/L VOC capable resins and colorants. Some of the innovative technologies from EPS that maximize coating performance include:

  • EPS® 2252 – a high-solids all-acrylic emulsion that adheres to low-energy substrates commonly used in roofing, such as TPO and EPDM.
  • EPS® 2580 – an acrylic polymer for direct-to-metal coatings with excellent gloss development, corrosion and chemical resistance, and adhesion to metal substrates.
  • EPS® 2799 – an all-acrylic polymer for high performance gloss interior and exterior architectural and institutional paints.
  • NovoColor® SF colorants – waterborne dispersions designed for in-plant tinting of architectural and industrial coatings and stains where a high degree of color transparency is desired.


About Karl Booth

Karl is an R&D group leader at Engineered Polymer Solutions, where he focuses on leading innovative polymer development. Karl has held a variety of roles over his nine years in the coatings industry that include polymer synthesis, technical services, and waterborne coatings formulation. Karl holds a master’s degree in chemistry from the University of Illinois.


About Mark Ellsworth
Mark is the Technical Director, Global Architectural Colorants for EPS. He leads new product development and existing product support activities for POS and In-Plant architectural colorants. Mark received his B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Illinois, Urbana, and his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley.


About Chris LeFever

Chris is an R&D Chemist at Engineered Polymer Solutions, where he has worked on a comprehensive range of projects in the industrial maintenance space. These projects range from waterborne coatings formulation, solventborne coatings formulation, and emulsion synthesis and design. His current research centers on minimizing volatile organic compounds in protective coatings formulations. Chris graduated from Western Illinois University with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry.


About Robert Sandoval
Robert is an R&D Technical Manager at EPS, leading the Industrial and Construction coatings group. His industrial research has focused on polymer design as it relates to improving coating performance. His technical contributions have helped to commercially launch several platform technologies at EPS, including resins for architectural coatings, industrial direct-to-metal coatings, and roof coatings. Robert earned a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Michigan Technological University and a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Northwestern University.
